Day 3: A World Famous Archaeological Site, a Clear-Water Sinkhole & Sightseeing in a Colonial Town

We are going on another day trip today. We are firstly taken to the ruins of Chichen Itza. There we are provided with a guided tour. Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most visited archaeological sites in the Americas.

Next, we head to a sinkhole (a.k.a. cenote). Created as a result of a meteor crashing into the area approximately 66 million years ago and used only centuries ago by the indigenous tribe for sacrificial offerings, nowadays this cenote is used by tourists like us who enjoy swimming in clear waters. Lunch is included on today’s tour, near the cenote.

Lastly, we visit a colonial town called Valladolid. There we have around 30 minutes to walk around freely. The highlights are the cathedral, city hall and central park.
